PM Modi, Mauritius PM Plant Sapling Under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritian counterpart, Naveen Ramgoolam, planted a Bael tree at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden on Tuesday as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, highlighting its deep roots in Indian tradition.

PM Modi previously undertook a similar initiative during his visit to Guyana.

His continued efforts have led to the plantation of over 1 billion trees across India.

The campaign has gained momentum globally, with over 27,500 trees planted in 136 countries. It includes two tree-planting events featuring the Prime Minister himself.

Launched on World Environment Day in June 2024, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ is a unique campaign that blends environmental conservation with a tribute to mothers.

PM Modi further highlighted the significance of collective action in preserving the environment and noted India’s progress in expanding its forest cover over the past decade.

The Prime Minister described the initiative as a key step in India’s commitment to sustainable development.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi reflected on his visit to Mauritius, emphasizing the enduring cultural ties between the two nations.

Taking to X, the Prime Minister however posted, “Memorable welcome in Mauritius. One of the highlights was the deep rooted cultural connect, seen in the Geet-Gawai performance. It’s commendable how the great Bhojpuri language thrives in the culture of Mauritius.”
