PM Modi Invites Nations To Join India’s Growth Story At SCO Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday connected India’s domestic philosophy with its global outreach, saying that ‘reform, perform and transform’ guides India’s path and should inspire other nations to participate in its wide-ranging growth momentum.

In his opening remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, the Prime Minister explained that these principles shape both India’s governance at home and its role in global forums such as the SCO.

“Today, India is exploring new opportunities. We invite you to be a part of India’s journey of development,” the Prime Minister stated, while adding that India and China follow strategic autonomy and their ties should not be viewed through the prism of any third country.

Reiterating that SCO represents Security, Connectivity and Opportunity, the Prime Minister stressed that connectivity is not only vital for trade but also builds trust and fosters development.

“That is why we are working on Chabahar port and the International North-South Economic Corridor projects, which will enhance connectivity to Afghanistan and Central Asia,” the Prime Minister told fellow leaders.

Connectivity should always respect sovereignty and territorial integrity – this is a fundamental principle of the SCO Charter. Connectivity that bypasses sovereignty loses trust and meaning,” the Prime Minister noted.

He further remarked, “It is a matter of happiness that the SCO is evolving with the changing needs of the times. Four new centres will likely set up to tackle challenges such as organised crime, drug trafficking, and cybersecurity. We welcome this reform-oriented mindset.”

The Prime Minister also urged member states to take a unified and uncompromising stance against terrorism and work together to eliminate the threat.

The SCO Summit, hosted by China this year, officially began on Sunday.

Established in 2001, the organisation brings together India, China, Russia and five other countries for cooperation in political, economic and security areas.

This visit marks the Prime Minister’s first trip to China in seven years, a significant moment as India and China cautiously manage their relations following the Galwan Valley clashes of 2020.
