PM Modi Invites European Companies To Expand Investments In India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India has emerged as one of the world’s most attractive destinations for investment, innovation, and manufacturing, while inviting European companies to deepen engagement with the country as a trusted economic partner.

Addressing the European Round Table for Industry (ERT) in Gothenburg, PM Modi highlighted the growing strategic convergence between India and Europe amid an increasingly complex global environment. He welcomed the momentum in India-European Union relations, including the successful conclusion of negotiations for the landmark India-EU Free Trade Agreement, describing it as a transformative economic partnership expected to create new opportunities across trade, technology, manufacturing, services, and resilient supply chains.

PM Modi said connectivity initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) would further strengthen India-Europe business cooperation.

Sectors India Wants Europe to Invest In

Highlighting India’s economic growth and ongoing reforms, the Prime Minister pointed to the government’s emphasis on ease of doing business, digital public infrastructure, manufacturing expansion, and infrastructure development.

Reiterating the vision of ‘Design for India, Make in India, and Export from India’, PM Modi invited European companies to increase their investments in telecom and digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, electronics, and deep-tech manufacturing, clean energy, mobility, healthcare, and life sciences.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need for India and Europe to work together to build resilient and diversified supply chains. He highlighted India’s large-scale investments in transport, logistics, renewable energy, green hydrogen, and nuclear power as part of the country’s energy transition plans.

PM Modi further underlined the importance of talent mobility, education, and skill partnerships between India and Europe, noting that India’s young workforce would play a major role in future global growth. He also proposed holding the India-Europe CEOs Roundtable annually and suggested establishing an India Desk at the ERT.

The interaction was hosted by Volvo Group and attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Ursula von der Leyen, and senior industry leaders from Europe and India.
