PM Modi Honors Former Mauritius Leaders At Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday honored former Mauritius Prime Minister Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and former President Anerood Jugnauth at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden.

During the visit, PM Modi, accompanied by Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, planted a Bael sapling as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

This symbolic gesture underscored the commitment of both nations to environmental sustainability.

Taking to X, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal posted, “A moment of remembrance! PM @narendramodi, accompanied by PM @Ramgoolam_Dr paid homage to the two towering leaders of Mauritian history—Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam & Sir Anerood Jugnauth—at the iconic Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, Pamplemousses. Reinforcing joint commitment to a green future, PM & PM @Ramgoolam_Dr planted a Bael sapling in the garden, contributing to the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.”

Commitment To Sustainability

The Prime Minister also expressed his respect for the contributions of the two Mauritian leaders, stating in a post on social media.

“Paid homage to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Sir Anerood Jugnauth, two great leaders who have made indelible contributions to Mauritius’ progress,” PM Modi posted on X.

The garden symbolizes Mauritius’ commitment to biodiversity conservation.

PM Modi expressed gratitude for Mauritius PM Ramgoolam’s participation in ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, calling it a humbling gesture.

“Humbled by the heartfelt gesture of my friend, Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, in taking part in ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’—a tribute to nature, motherhood and sustainability. His support stands tall as a symbol of our shared commitment to a greener and better future,” the Prime Minister further posted.

Following the visit, PM Modi will likely meet Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool, who will host a state lunch in his honor.

Later in the evening, he will address the Indian community in Mauritius alongside PM Ramgoolam.

On Wednesday, PM Modi will attend Mauritius’ National Day celebrations as the chief guest, marking a significant moment in India-Mauritius ties.
