PM Modi with Vladimir Putin
PM Modi embarked on a trip to Russia scheduled from July 8 to 9, marking his first visit to the country since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Russia is anticipating a significant visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow for level talks with President Vladimir Putin, with the Kremlin claiming that the West is envious of the trip.
In the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, the two leaders will review all aspects of the complex relationship between their countries and discuss current regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned in an interview that PM Modi’s schedule in Moscow will be comprehensive, allowing discussion between the two leaders.
Clearly, the schedule will be packed, if not downright hectic.
“It will be an official visit, and we hope that the heads will be able to talk in an informal way as well”, Peskov said.
Peskov stated that the relationship between Russia and India is classified as a strategic partnership.
“We are expecting a very important and full-fledged visit, which is so crucial for Russian-Indian relations”, Peskov continued.
Additionally, Peskov highlighted that the West is keeping a close and jealous eye on Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Russia.
In response to a question about the jealous attitude of Western politicians towards PM Modi’s visit to Russia, Peskov replied, “They are jealous — that means they are closely monitoring it. Their close monitoring means they attach great importance to it. And they are not mistaken, there is something to attach great importance to”.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Prime Minister Modi has had several telephonic conversations with Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, emphasizing the importance of ending the war that has impacted the global economy.
So far, 21 annual summits have been held alternately in India and Russia. The last annual summit took place on December 6, 2021, in New Delhi, during Putin’s visit to India.
