Pakistani Prime Minister: National Assembly Will Be Dissolved Before August 12

On Monday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underlined that the National Assembly will be dissolved before August 12 with the consultation of the allies.

In an interview, he stated that National Assembly’s tenure will finish on August 12 and that the assembly will be dissolved before them.

He stated that the Election Commission will declare a date for the next elections.

Sharif further stated that the choice of the caretaker PM will be made in consultation with the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and that he will talk with all allied parties and Pakistan Muslim League(N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif first.

Earlier in the day, Shehbaz Sharif attacked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, accusing him of being the mastermind behind the May 9 events intended at deposing military leadership.

Shehbaz Sharif further claimed that in addition to PTI workers, a number of politicians, military personnel, and their families were also involved in May 9 violence.

Furthermore, the military declared it a ‘Black Day’ in Pakistani history.

Shehbaz Sharif stated, “Those involved in the May 9 incidents wanted to overthrow the military leadership”.

He also stated that the planners desired anarchy and war in the country.

According to the report, as many as 2138 people have been arrested in Pakistan’s Punjab province in connection with the May 9 case.

While the PTI says that its members were not involved in the attacks, however, the government and military deny this and claim to have ‘irrefutable evidence’ of their involvement.

Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was arrested in the Al Qadir Trust case on May 9 at the Islamabad High Court. Protests following his detention, and military sites, including the Lahore corps commander’s residence and state buildings were attacked.
