Pakistan Recommends US President Trump For 2026 Nobel Peace Prize Over Role In India-Pakistan Ceasefire

The government of Pakistan has formally announced its recommendation of US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, crediting him for his ‘decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership’ during the latest flare-up between India and Pakistan, according to ‘The Dawn’.

The recent conflict came to a halt following days of cross-border shelling, culminating in a ceasefire.

Taking to X, the Pakistani government claimed that the world had “bore witness to unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression,” calling it a grave breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty that led to civilian casualties, including women, children, and elderly individuals, ‘The Dawn’ reported.

In response, Pakistan launched ‘Operation Bunyanum Marsoos’, described as a ‘measured, resolute, and precise military response’.

The operation was framed as an act of ‘self-defence’ aimed at restoring deterrence while consciously avoiding civilian harm.

The statement highlighted President Trump’s ‘strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship’ during the crisis, noting his active diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi.

According to ‘The Dawn’, Pakistan credited President Trump with de-escalating a volatile situation, achieving a ceasefire, and preventing a broader conflict between two nuclear powers.

The government hailed the US president’s actions as ‘a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker’ and reaffirmed that sustainable peace in South Asia remains contingent on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

Citing Trump’s broader record, the statement argued that his involvement during the 2025 crisis reflected his continued legacy of pragmatic diplomacy.

Pakistan expressed hope that its efforts would further contribute to global peace, referencing the Middle East situation, including Gaza and Iran, ‘The Dawn’ reported.

US President Trump claims credit for ceasefire

President Trump has repeatedly claimed that the ceasefire resulted from US-brokered talks, stating that he encouraged both nations to pursue trade rather than war, ‘The Dawn’ noted.

The cessation of hostilities reportedly followed a call from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to India’s DGMO, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, with both sides agreeing to end the conflict from 5:00 PM on 10 May.

However, Ghai later alleged that Pakistan violated the agreement within hours through renewed cross-border fire and drone activity.

The crisis had escalated after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on 7 May, targeting nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).

This came in retaliation for a terror attack in Pahalgam on 22 April that killed 26 civilians, including one Nepali national.

After the Indian military carried out retaliatory strikes, Pakistan responded with intensified cross-border shelling, leading to further counteractions by the Indian Armed Forces.
