Pakistan Court Rules Imran Khan’s Wife To Shift To Jail From House Arrest

A Pakistani court accepted the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s plea to be transferred to jail on Wednesday, her lawyer said, rather than house arrest, which the government had ordered due to security concerns.

“Bushra Bibi, who has been jailed in Khan’s hilltop mansion in Islamabad since the couple’s January conviction for illegally selling state gifts, had challenged the house arrest”, her lawyer Naeem Panjutha said.

Bushra Bibi filed an appeal with the Islamabad High Court, through her lawyers, requesting that she be transferred to jail.

In a statement, Imran Khan’s party stated, “The court ordered authorities to shift her to Adyala jail in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, where Khan, 70, a former cricket superstar, is serving his 14-year sentence”.

“Bibi had complained of being served contaminated food by the authorities at the house, which was declared a sub-jail”, the party added.

The authorities have disputed the accusations.
