NSA Ajit Doval Meets Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi; Stresses Need To Counter Terrorism

National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing during his visit to attend the 20th Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday.

The MEA stated that both leaders reviewed recent developments in India-China relations. They highlighted the need to enhance bilateral ties and promote broader engagement, including stronger people-to-people contacts.

“NSA also emphasised the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region,” the ministry said.

The MEA added that both sides exchanged views on various bilateral, regional, and global matters of shared interest.

“NSA noted that he looked forward to meeting with Wang Yi in India at a mutually convenient date for the 24th round of the Special Representative (SR) Talks,” the MEA stated.

India seeks SCO mention of Pahalgam Terror Attack

India earlier called for including a reference to the Pahalgam terror attack in an official document. The document is to be presented at the SCO summit. China is chairing the summit.

Meanwhile, Pakistan pushed for including references to the Jaffar Express hijacking and a recent bus attack by Baloch rebels in the same document.

Reports said India urged the SCO to condemn the Pahalgam attack in its final outcome statement. In the attack, 26 tourists were brutally killed. The terrorists belonged to The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Sources said serious talks are ongoing to include India’s proposal. They added that failing to do so may affect the credibility of the SCO proceedings.

The SCO is a permanent intergovernmental organisation established on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai. Member states include India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.
