North Korea’s Kim Jong Meets Russian President Vladimir Putin; Here’s What They Discussed

Kim Jong Un, Leader of North Korea visited Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia on Wednesday. The meeting was held at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the country’s far eastern Amur region. He traveled to Russia on a special train to meet with President Putin to the sounds of a military band despite warnings from Washington not to exchange weapons. Kim was spotted heading onto a red-carpeted train platform before meeting Natural Resources Minister Alexander Kozlov while on a rare overseas trip and his first since the pandemic.

Kim boarded his train on Sunday and departed Pyongyang for Russia. Only seven excursions outside of his country and two crossings of the inter-Korean border have been made by Kim in his twelve years in charge. Four of those journeys were to China, the North’s principal political ally.

What was the discussion between Kim Jong and Vladimir Putin all about

The two leaders had a tour of a Soyuz-2 space rocket launch facility before their meeting. Putin suggested that Russia might assist North Korea in developing satellites. That’s the reason we came here. The North Korean leader is very interested in rocket technology. At the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Far East, Putin stated that they were working to advance their space program.

Kim informed Putin, the head of the Kremlin, that the West and Russia were engaged in a holy war, and that the two nations would combat “imperialism” together. Through a translator, Kim informed Putin that “Russia has risen to a sacred fight to protect its sovereignty and security… against the hegemonic forces.”

Stepping stone to closer North Korea – Russia ties

The North Korean leader claimed that his meeting with Putin was a “stepping stone” toward closer ties between the two nations. Kim Jong Un, the leader of the isolated nation, was hosted by Putin, who celebrated the “strengthening of future cooperation” with North Korea.

Kim said he was sure that the Russian army and people would triumph against “evil”. “I am deeply convinced that the heroic Russian army and people will brilliantly inherit the tradition of victory, confidently demonstrate invaluable dignity and honour on the fronts of the special military operation,” Kim said. Although he stressed that Russia would uphold its duties to the international community, Putin stated there were potential for bilateral military-technical cooperation.

As North Korean leader Kim Jong Un paid a rare foreign visit to Russia, where President Vladimir Putin offered his assistance, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged other nations to abide by UN sanctions against that nation. Kim Jong Un’s offer for Putin to visit North Korea was accepted. The Russian president underlined his commitment to continuously uphold the history and tradition of the friendship between Russia and the DPRK.
