Citigroup reportedly Fired Nozima Husainova, a Citi personal banker, due to an anti-Israel social media post that seemingly expressed support for Hitler’s actions during the Holocaust. In her post, she wrote, “No wonder why Hitler wanted to get rid of all of them,” while criticizing Israel in the context of the Gaza hospital bombing.
This comment faced significant backlash after it was shared by the non-partisan group Stop AntiSemitism on the platform X (formerly Twitter).
“Is this vile antisemite to your employee @Citi?” they wrote in response.
Citigroup acknowledged the comment and declared that the appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken.
They stated, “We vehemently oppose antisemitism and other hate speech.
Later, Citigroup acknowledged firing her and denounced antisemitism. “We fired the employee who published the disgusting anti-Semitic remark on social media. We reject all forms of hate speech, including antisemitism, and do not accept them in our bank, they declared.
StopAntisemitism thanked X for standing up to antisemitism when she was fired, writing, “Thank you @Citi for saying NO! to antisemitism.”
Many other X users praised the bank for taking “swift action” as well.
“Good work. Citi’s quick move must be commended, someone wrote on X.
Good news. It’s encouraging to see how quickly businesses are responding to comments like this,” a different person stated.
A different user accused Ms. Husainova of acting inappropriately, asking, “What was she thinking? A complete embarrassment.
Ms. Husainova was let off shortly after a number of corporate executives vowed not to hire Harvard students who signed a letter attributing Hamas’ deadly actions on Israel.
In a letter acquired by The New York Post, the students argued that Hamas wasn’t responsible for the attack and that the Israeli government had detained Palestinians for more than 20 years in what they called a “open-air prison.”
