Emmanuel Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron described Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel as the biggest anti-Semitic massacre of our century as he hosted a ceremony to honor the French victims.
He branded the Palestinian Hamas group’s attack as ‘barbarism… which is fed by anti-Semitism and propagates it’, vowing not to give in to rampant and uninhibited anti-Semitism.
The ceremony at the Invalides memorial complex in Paris paid tribute to the 42 French people killed in Hamas’s attack on Israel, as well as the three individuals who are still missing and thought hostages.
Macron stated that France would try every day to liberate the other French captives.
“Their empty chairs are there”, Macron announced during the ceremony.
“Nothing can justify or excuse terrorism”, Macron continued.
The French presidency has also stated that it will provide an opportunity to remember French victims of Israel’s shelling of the Gaza Strip but has not specified the format.
“All lives are equal, are invaluable in the eyes of France”, added Macron, characterizing war as a tornado of suffering.
Macron vowed that France would never allow the spirit of revenge to prosper and that “in these challenges, nothing should divide us”.
He stated that France would do all possible to respond to the aspirations of peace and security for everyone in the Middle East.
