On the sidelines of G-20 Summit in Bali, PM Modi exchanged greetings with Xi Jinping and Joe Biden with plans structured bilaterally encompassing eight of the top world leaders.
The PM Modi’s meeting today with the Chinese President is the first public exchange of greetings between the two top world leaders since the April 2020’s LAC standoff.
During the dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Bali, Indonesia for the G20 leaders, Indian Prime Minister met Chinese Premier.
Holding talks with the American President Jo Biden, PM Modi also exchanged words with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was the first such meeting between the two in last three years. On the sidelines of the G-20 summit, PM Modi is expected to hold more structured bilateral talks today. And these high level meetings with at least eight leaders present in Bali for the G-20 Summit which is an annual meeting of the world’s most advanced economies. Significantly this was the venue where PM Modi’s first such interaction has also been witnessed with the U.K.’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as well as Italian PM Giorgia Meloni.
Here at Bali, the Modi- Jinping meeting is being seen as remarkable, given that both the leaders did not have any public interaction at the the SCO Summit in the month of September at Samarkand in September, where they stood on the dais next to each other during the joint photo call.
Three years ago the two South Asian leaders had last held bilateral talks in November 2019. After the standoff at the Line of Actual Control and the killing of soldiers at Galwan the same year in June, they have not publicly spoken to each other.
