Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has commended the interim decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Gaza massacre case, applauding South Africa for taking Israel to the highest UN judicial body. The organization urged India, the global community, and Muslim nations to exert immediate pressure on Israel for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The ICJ ruling emphasized that Israel must uphold its obligation to abstain from committing acts of genocide during its conflict with Gaza. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s President, Syed Saadatullah Hussaini, expressed appreciation for South Africa’s proactive stance, citing the country’s historical commitment to opposing colonialism, occupation, and apartheid. South Africa argued before the ICJ that Israel was responsible for serious violations of humanitarian law and acts of genocide in Gaza.
“We appreciate some of the ICJ’s remarks, especially those outlined in paragraphs 54, 78, and 79,” stated the chairman of the Jamaat. “However, we are disappointed that the ICJ did not specifically call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.” An advantageous feature of the ICJ ruling is that it expressly advances the objective of averting genocide and legally and morally denounces Israel for its airstrikes on medical facilities and heavily populated civilian areas. It is a fact that the majority of the interim measures, which called for Israel to stop its genocide, were approved by the International Court of Justice by a vote of 15 to 2.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind called on the Indian government, the international community, and Muslim countries to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The organization emphasized the need to continue prosecuting Israel in the ICJ until peace is achieved in the Gaza Strip and hostilities come to a halt.
