Italian PM, Giorgia Meloni
After the banning of ChatGPT in the nation, Italy is now planning to curb the usage of the English language in the nation. The political party of Italian PM, Giorgia Meloni has even proposed to impose a fine worth 100,000 Euros which accounts for around 1 Cr Indian rupees, which indeed is a lot. The same will be imposed for the use of foreign languages especially, English rather than Italian in formal communication.
A bill is also proposed by lawmakers from Meloni’s nationalist Brothers of Italy party. This bill will have to be passed by both houses of the Italian parliament so as to become an official law. However, there are no signs of anything like that happening for real.
The bill presented justifies the act by expressing, “it is not just a matter of fashion, as fashion passes, but Anglomania (has) repercussions for the society as a whole.”
It also mentioned that the spread of English “demeans and mortifies” Italian. The billhas also advanced the idea government and private bodies have to utilize the language of Dante to publicize their products. It has also established that foreign words and languages is only allowed it impossible to translate.

If the law passes, the first and foremost changes will have to happen in the Italian Parliament only. While Meloni herself uses a lot of English terms during her address in the Parliament. This bill has come into being after the government bans laboratory-produced food. It was intended to safeguard the nation’s agri-food heritage. The present government is always trying to protect and secure the Italian culture. This new proposed law is going to be part of the same league. Whether it passes or not, the intentions of the current government are clear.
