Iranian President Was Injured In Israel’s Nasrallah-Style Assassination Plot: Report

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained a minor leg injury during an Israeli airstrike on a building in western Tehran on 16 June.

The strike hit while a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council was in session, according to a semi-official news agency report on Sunday.

Fars News Agency, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), confirmed several senior officials were present. These included Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Judiciary Chief Mohseni Ejei.

The targeted building was in the Shahrak-e Gharb district. The missile strike caused a brief power outage and damaged critical entry and exit points.

The report stated that six missiles struck access points of the building. The precision led officials to suspect the presence of an internal infiltrator.

The missile pattern was reportedly modelled on the 2006 assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Senior Iranian leaders, located in the lower levels, used a pre-planned emergency hatch to escape. Several officials suffered minor injuries while evacuating, including President Pezeshkian.

He later spoke about the incident in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, stating, “They did try, yes. They acted accordingly, but they failed.”

The Israeli airstrike was part of a wider 12-day conflict.

Reports claim Israeli forces eliminated multiple senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists. Those killed included IRGC Commander Hossein Salami, Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri, and IRGC Air Force Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh.

Separate reports suggested Israel had intended to assassinate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, the opportunity reportedly never arose.
