Iran Reviews US Response To Peace Proposal As Talks Continue

Iran has begun examining a response from the United States to its proposed framework aimed at ending the ongoing regional conflict, according to officials.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a television interview that the US has replied to Tehran’s 14-point proposal, and the contents are currently under review. He emphasised that the proposal is strictly focusing on bringing an end to hostilities and does not include any provisions related to Iran’s nuclear programme.

Baghaei underlined that discussions at this stage are centred on conflict resolution, including developments involving Lebanon, and made it clear that nuclear negotiations are not part of the current engagement. He reiterated that Iran does not pursue atomic weapons and maintains that its nuclear activities serve civilian purposes.

Separately, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held consultations with his counterparts from Oman and Germany to discuss diplomatic efforts linked to the situation.

In phone conversations with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi and Johann Wadephul, Araghchi shared updates on Iran’s initiatives and exchanged views on regional developments.

The current diplomatic exchanges follow a period of heightened conflict earlier this year.

On February 28, joint strikes carried out by Israel and the United States targeted Tehran and other locations, resulting in the deaths of senior figures, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as civilians.

Iran subsequently responded with missile and drone attacks aimed at Israel and US-linked targets.

A ceasefire came into effect on April 8, after which delegations from Iran and the United States met in Islamabad. Those talks did not lead to an agreement, leaving negotiations ongoing.
