Iran requests that India “use all its capacities” to put an end to Israel’s storm upon Gaza

New Delhi: In the midst of the current crisis, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and asked India to use “all its capacities” to put an end to Israeli attacks in Gaza. As per the Iranian transcription of the conversation between the two leaders, Raisi highlighted India’s battles against Western colonialism and its role as one of the pioneers of the global Non-Aligned Movement.

“Today, India is expected to use all its capacities to end the Zionist crimes against the oppressed people of Gaza,” the statement continued. The Iranian president went on to say that Tehran is in favor of any international coordinated effort to bring about an instant truce, relieve the embargo, and help Gaza’s downtrodden citizens.

“The continuation of the killing of the Palestinian people has infuriated of all the free nations of the world and this killing will have extra-regional consequences,” he said.

The death of downtrodden and defenseless women and children, as well as assaults on schools, hospitals, mosques, churches, and residential areas, he continued, are “condemned and unacceptable” from the perspective of any human being.

“Palestinian resistance groups have a legitimate right to confront the occupation of the usurping Zionist regime and all countries must support the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom from oppression,” Raisi was quoted as saying in the Iranian readout.

He said, “How come that the struggle of European countries against Nazi Germany is an admirable and heroic act, but the resistance of the Palestinian people against the child-killing and criminal Zionist regime is condemned?!”

During a different segment of the discussion, Raisi referred to Tehran’s perspective on India’s relations as “strategic” and emphasized the need for planning to foster cooperation and make up for any delays in this area.

President Raisi emphasized that India is expected to make “serious investments” to promote sustainable economic relations, notably in Chabahar Port, while highlighting the significance of the North-South Corridor and its benefits for all nations in the area. Prime Minister Modi emphasized during the discussion the significance of averting an escalation, guaranteeing the continuous supply of humanitarian supplies, and expeditiously reestablishing peace and calm in the area.

The leaders expressed their gratitude for the advancements made in bilateral cooperation between Iran and India, particularly with regard to the Chabahar port. PM Modi h as spoken over the phone with foreign leaders on a frequent basis ever since Israel launched war on Hamas on October 7, following the terror group’s mayhem in southern Israel.

PM Modi expressed his worries to UAE President Mohammed Bin Zayed earlier on Friday, citing the growing crisis and civilian casualties in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Following Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, both leaders agreed on “the need for early resolution of the security and humanitarian situation” in the area.

The fierce Israel-Hamas conflict was the topic of a previous conversation between Iranian counterpart Amirabdollahian and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The two leaders emphasized how critical it is to stop the situation from getting worse and to continue providing vital humanitarian aid.

In order to confront the changing circumstances in West Asia, they also decided to keep in touch.
