Iran Confirms Killing Of Ali Larijani In Tehran Strike

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed that attackers killed its secretary, Ali Larijani, early Tuesday in Tehran, Tasnim news agency reported.

The strike also killed Larijani’s son Morteza, council deputy Alireza Bayat, and several other officials. The council praised Larijani’s decades of service and urged the nation to unite against external threats.

The attack occurred amid rising regional tensions after ongoing US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets since 28 February.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel had targeted Larijani during its operations against Iran.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the death of Gholamreza Soleimani, head of the Basij volunteer force, in a separate US-Israeli strike.

These attacks follow a series of retaliatory actions by Iran and its regional allies targeting US and Israeli interests in the Middle East, underscoring the volatility in the region and the use of precision strikes on key security figures.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi denied any recent contact with former US envoy Steve Witkoff, while reports indicate that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei rejected proposals to reduce tensions or negotiate a ceasefire with the United States.

Iranian leadership has emphasised self-reliance and defensive readiness, framing the attacks as attempts to undermine national security.

The IRGC also launched a new ‘Haj Qasem’ ballistic missile targeting Israel, described as a precision-guided weapon named after slain commander Qassem Soleimani.

The missile is part of Tehran’s strategy to deter further attacks and assert regional influence.

The developments highlight the fragile security situation in the Middle East, marking a significant escalation in the US-Israeli-Iranian conflict and reinforcing Iran’s call for internal unity and resilience.
