A renewed diplomatic dispute has surfaced after Iran accused the United States of failing to honour key elements of a recently agreed 10-Point Proposal intended to guide future negotiations.
In a statement issued late Tuesday, Iranian authorities said their long-standing mistrust of Washington had deepened, citing multiple instances in which parties allegedly failed to uphold commitments.
Although the US President had earlier described the framework as a ‘workable basis on which to negotiate’, Tehran claims that three of its provisions have already been disregarded.
According to Iranian officials, the first issue relates to the ceasefire clause connected to Lebanon, which fails to ensure proper implementation. They referenced Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had urged ‘an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other regions, effective immediately’.
The second concern involves an alleged breach of Iranian airspace by a drone, which Tehran claims it intercepted and brought down in Lar, in Fars Province.
Iran centres its third point of contention on its right to uranium enrichment, arguing that the sixth clause of the proposal guarantees this right, although the proposal does not acknowledge it.
Iran maintains that these developments cast serious doubt on the credibility of the proposed talks.
“The very workable basis on which to negotiate has been openly and clearly violated,” the statement said, adding that “Under such conditions, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable.”
The situation unfolds against the backdrop of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
Islamabad has been advocating restraint and dialogue, positioning itself as a key intermediary while calling for immediate ceasefires across Lebanon and other areas of conflict.
The latest accusations underscore the fragile nature of relations between Tehran and Washington, raising uncertainty over whether the current framework can realistically support meaningful negotiations.
