Indian-Origin Woman Killed In Toronto; Police Launch Nationwide Search

Police found a 30-year-old Indian-origin woman dead in Toronto, triggering a Canada-wide manhunt for a suspect believed to have been known to her.

Canadian authorities are treating the case as a homicide, with investigators pointing to possible intimate partner violence.

The victim has been identified as Himanshi Khurana. Toronto Police have named Abdul Ghafoori, 32, also a Toronto resident, as the prime suspect and issued a nationwide arrest warrant in connection with the killing.

According to Toronto Police, officers responded late on Friday night to a report of a missing woman in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area. Police received the call at approximately 10:41 PM on December 19, 2025.

The following morning, at around 6:30 AM on December 20, police located the woman deceased inside a residence.

Authorities confirmed that the death was suspicious and formally classified it as a homicide after preliminary investigations.

Police officials said the victim and the suspect knew each other and added that the circumstances suggest the case may involve intimate partner violence, CBC News reported.

Canada-wide warrant issued

Abdul Ghafoori is wanted on charges of first-degree murder. Under Canadian law, a conviction for first-degree murder can result in life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for at least 25 years, subject to judicial determination.

Law enforcement agencies across Canada have alerted authorities and intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect. Police have urged the public not to approach him and to report any information related to his whereabouts immediately.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto confirmed the development and expressed deep sorrow over the killing. In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the Consulate expressed deep sadness and shock over the murder of a young Indian national.

Officials added that they are closely monitoring the case. They are also providing all possible assistance to the victim’s family in coordination with Canadian authorities.

Toronto Police said the investigation remains active and will release further details as they become available. Authorities continue to appeal for public cooperation as the search for the suspect intensifies.
