Indian-Origin Professor Awarded Dutch Prize For Research On Climate Change

Dr. Joyeeta Gupta, an Indian-origin academic, was awarded the coveted Dutch Prize for her work on climate change.

She is a professor of environment and development in the global south at the University of Amsterdam’s Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education.

The award ceremony is organized by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

On October 4, Dr. Gupta was awarded the renowned Spinoza Prize by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), popularly known as the ‘Dutch Nobel’.

The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands tweeted, “Congratulations to Dr. Joyeeta Gupta for receiving the prestigious Spinoza Prize by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the highest distinction in Dutch science for her outstanding & pioneering work on a just & sustainable world @IndiaDST @DiasporaDiv_MEA @moefcc @PMOIndia @RHDijkgraaf”, through its official ‘X’ handle.

Every year, scholars working in the Netherlands who according to international standards belong to the absolutely best researchers worldwide are awarded the Spinoza Award, the highest honor in Dutch academia.

Notably, the Spinoza Prize is a 1.5 million euro annual grant to be spent on scientific research and related activities.
