Indian Navy Participates In Mauritius National Day Parade; PM Modi Salutes Contingent

The Indian Navy participated in Mauritius’ National Day celebrations on Wednesday, with a contingent marching in the parade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen saluting the Indian Navy contingent as they passed, holding a placard with ‘India’ and displaying the tricolor.

Additionally, an Indian Navy helicopter flew past during the celebrations, witnessed by thousands of people.

The crew from INS Imphal, currently stationed in Mauritius for the National Day celebrations, includes the contingent.

During its stay at Port Louis, the ship participates in various activities to strengthen the relationship between India and Mauritius.

These activities include training exchanges, friendly sports fixtures, and community outreach programs.

A joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance and exercise with MCGS ships will enhance maritime security cooperation.

Captain Kamal Kumar Choudhury of INS Imphal expressed pride in representing India during the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius.

He stated, “It is a matter of immense pride and honour for me and my crew to represent India at the 57th National Day celebration of the Republic of Mauritius. This is in keeping with a long-standing tradition of Indian warships and aircraft participating in these celebrations over the years. Today’s parade, we have a marching contingent, naval band and two helicopters who will be participating in the flypast. We are here from 10th to 14th March.”

This marks PM Modi’s second time as the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day, an honor he first received in 2015.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeat invitation highlights the deep and unique relationship between the two nations, closely tied through history, culture, and shared diaspora.

In addition to his visit to Mauritius, PM Modi has participated in several other significant international events.

In 2023, PM Modi attended the Bastille Day Parade in France, further strengthening India’s growing military and strategic partnership with France.

The Prime Minister has made several impactful visits to neighboring countries. Each visit highlights India’s leadership in regional stability and cultural diplomacy. These visits however include:

  • Nepal (2022): Attended Buddha Jayanti celebrations, reinforcing India’s role in regional cultural diplomacy.
  • Bangladesh (2021): Marked the National Day, commemorating 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence, strengthening bilateral ties.
  • Sri Lanka (2017): Participated in International Vesak Day, showcasing India’s commitment to regional unity and cultural exchanges.
