As Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on his two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia from 21 to 22 April, the Indian diaspora in Jeddah is eagerly preparing to welcome him with traditional celebrations.
The visit, which marks PM Modi’s third trip to the Kingdom, has sparked excitement within the community, who view it as a momentous occasion.
PM Modi is in Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
Prime Minister’s previous visits to the country were in 2016 and 2019. This trip marks another step by India to deepen its bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia.
The Indian community in Jeddah is, however, planning a vibrant, cultural reception for the Prime Minister.
Preparations are in full swing, with performances like Kathak dance arranged to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage.
A troupe of dancers rehearsed in the city, preparing to perform on this special day.
Speaking to ANI, Pushpa Suresh, a member of the Good Hope Arts Academy, shared her excitement.
She stated, “It is a big day for us as our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi ji, is coming here. Jeddah is called a sacred city as it is close to Mecca. We will welcome the PM with a glimpse of a traditional dance.”
Suresh also acknowledged the support from the Indian embassy, noting, “Good Hope Arts Academy is the first government-registered arts academy in Saudi Arabia. We got full support from the Indian embassy here. Many Indian children and those from other countries want to learn Indian dance forms. I have been teaching dance in Jeddah for the last 35 years.”
Another member of the diaspora, Samriti, who is also part of the dance troupe, expressed her enthusiasm, asserting, “We are really excited.”
As part of his visit, PM Modi will likely visit a factory where Indian workers are employed, providing him an opportunity to interact with them directly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Saudi Arabia will also feature high-level talks focusing on pressing regional and global matters. Key discussion points will likely include:
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted that the visit will strengthen India-Saudi Arabia relations, especially in the areas of defence cooperation and economic partnerships.
The visit will serve as a crucial platform for expanding collaboration between the two nations.
