In a revised UN Security Council, Russia restated its support for India as a permanent member, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.

Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, headed the Indian mission, and Oleg Syromolotov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, led the Russian delegation.

The statement reads, “Both sides shared their experiences in combating terrorism and extremism and discussed current terrorist threats at the global and regional levels”.

Representatives from India and Russia’s relevant departments and agencies also attended the meeting.

“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation in bilateral as well as multilateral platforms”, the statement added.

The Russian side expressed gratitude for India’s position as Chair of the UN Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee in 2022 and applauded the passage of the New Delhi Declaration, which focused on combatting the exploitation of new and emerging technology for terrorist goals.
