India-Italy Ties ‘Stronger Than Ever’, Says Giorgia Meloni After PM Modi’s Message

On Friday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said India-Italy relations are ‘stronger than ever’ after Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on her government becoming the longest-serving in the history of the Italian Republic.

Responding to PM Modi’s post on X, PM Meloni thanked him for his wishes and friendship. She said the Special Strategic Partnership between the two countries reflected their shared intention to combine their expertise and create new opportunities for economic growth.

PM Meloni expressed confidence that India and Italy would deepen their ties further and work together on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

Earlier, PM Modi congratulated PM Meloni on reaching the milestone, saying it reflected the trust and confidence of the Italian people in her leadership. He further credited her friendship with helping strengthen the India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership and said he looked forward to continuing close cooperation.

PM Meloni became Italy’s first woman Prime Minister when she took office on October 22, 2022. Her government completed 1,413 days on Friday, surpassing the previous record for a post-war Italian government held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

India and Italy upgraded their bilateral relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership during PM Modi’s two-day official visit to Italy in May.

PM Modi held talks with PM Meloni and Italian President Sergio Mattarella during the visit.

The two leaders welcomed the strong momentum in high-level exchanges and agreed to hold annual leaders’ meetings, including on the sidelines of multilateral events. They backed regular Ministerial and institutional-level discussions.

PM Meloni had earlier congratulated PM Modi in July after he became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister and expressed her willingness to work with him to create new opportunities for both countries.
