Hezbollah Rocket Attack Kills Israeli Army Officer

The Israeli military reported that an Israeli army officer was killed by Hezbollah rocket fire on Thursday.

Itay Galea, 38, was a deputy company commander in the 8679th Unit of the Israeli Army’s 679th Armored Brigade.

During Hezbollah’s massive attacks on Israel, a hit the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights and killed him.

Hezbollah fired around 200 rockets, missiles, and drones toward northern Israel in retaliation for Israel’s recent targeted killing of its senior military officer Mohammad Naameh Nasser in southwestern Lebanon’s Tyre city.

Galea, a reservist officer, served in the Gaza Strip before being sent to northern Israel as part of Israel’s preparation for a potential full-fledged war with Hezbollah.

Galea’s death marked the 18th fatality among Israeli soldiers killed in Hezbollah attacks since the Lebanese armed group and Israel began fighting across the border in early October last year.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border rose on October 8, 2023, after Hezbollah launched a volley of missiles into Israel in solidarity with its ally Hamas’ strike on Israel the day before.
