Guy Parmelin India Visit: Trade, Investment And Innovation On Agenda With PM Modi

Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin is set to arrive in India on Monday for a three-day State visit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation.

The two leaders will hold talks on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, science, technology, innovation and mobility.

The visit, scheduled from October 5 to 7, will be Parmelin’s first State visit to India and his second visit to the country this year. He had earlier travelled to New Delhi in February 2026 to participate in the AI Impact Summit.

President Parmelin will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials and business leaders.

During his visit, President Parmelin will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi to review progress in areas including trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, mobility, culture and people-to-people ties.

The two leaders will discuss regional and global developments, including cooperation in multilateral forums.

President Parmelin will meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also meet him.

Parmelin will attend the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on October 7, marking the first anniversary of the TEPA coming into force.

The Ministry of External Affairs has described Switzerland as India’s largest trade and investment partner among the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries. It highlighted the longstanding friendly ties between the two countries and the importance of regular high-level exchanges.

The visit comes amid sustained engagement between India and Switzerland.

The last State visit by an Indian President to Switzerland took place in 2019, while Prime Minister Modi visited the country in 2016 and 2018.

The talks will strengthen bilateral cooperation and deepen economic and strategic engagement between India and Switzerland.
