Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday suggested that Ukraine might be linked to the recent cyberattack on X, which led to a major global outage on the platform.
Millions of users across Europe, North America, and Asia, including India, faced extended disruptions on Monday.
Outage tracking service DownDetector recorded peak disruptions around 3:00 PM.
Addressing the media, Musk claimed that the cyberattack had digital traces pointing to Ukraine.
Musk in an interview with Fox News stated, “We’re not sure exactly what happened, but there was a massive cyberattack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”
During the outage, over 40,000 users experienced difficulties accessing the platform, posting content, or even loading pages.
The disruption rendered X temporarily unusable.
Musk confirmed that the incident was a cyberattack and vowed to track down those responsible.
Taking to X, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO posted, “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing.”
Musk claimed the attack aimed to suppress his voice and weaken X. He suggested this was due to his criticism of Ukraine while advising former US President Donald Trump.
Recently, Musk argued that Ukraine’s frontline operations would collapse without his Starlink satellite service, though he reassured that access would not be revoked.
Reinforcing his stance, Musk shared a post linking the attack to wider efforts against him.
The post suggested the cyberattack was part of an organized campaign. It linked the attack to protests against:
