Dual Threats: Chinese Military Aircraft, Naval Vessels Encroach Near Taiwan

On Friday, Taiwan tracked 26 Chinese military aircraft and 5 naval vessels operating around the nation. It was between 6 am on Thursday to 6 am on Friday.

According to the Taiwan Ministry of National Defence, 17 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait.

The aircraft also entered Taiwan’s northern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone.

The Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.

Taking to X, the Taiwan Ministry of National Defence said, “26 PLA aircraft and 5 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6a.m.(UTC+8) today. 17 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern and SW ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”

Earlier on Thursday, Taiwan detected 15 Chinese military aircraft operating around the southeastern coast of Mainland China.

According to the Taiwan Ministry of National Defence, 10 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait.

The aircraft also entered north, central, and southwest parts of Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone in conducting joint combat patrol along with PLAN vessels.

The Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.

Taking to X, the Taiwan Ministry of National Defence said, “Overall 15 PLA aircraft in various types (including SU-30, KJ-500, UAVs, etc.) were detected along the southeastern coast of Mainland China from 1600hr.”

“Out of which, 10 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the north, central, and southwest parts of Taiwan’s ADIZ in conducting joint combat patrol along with PLAN vessels.
#ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly,” the Ministry added.

Since September 2020, China has increased its use of gray zone tactics. This includes incrementally increasing the number of military aircraft and naval ships operating around Taiwan.
