Washington has officially entered a new phase of its Gaza peace initiative, according to US President Donald Trump, marking a strategic shift from ceasefire oversight to governance, demilitarisation, and long-term reconstruction.
Emphasising the change in approach, the President said the United States now supports a Palestinian technocratic administration while pushing firmly for Hamas to lay down its arms.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, “As Steve Witkoff announced, we have OFFICIALLY entered the next phase of Gaza’s 20-Point Peace Plan!”
Highlighting developments on the ground, Trump said his administration had facilitated record levels of humanitarian assistance to Gaza. He said his administration delivered aid to civilians at an unprecedented pace and scale, an effort he claimed the United Nations acknowledged as historic.
Noting the significance of these achievements, the President said the results had prepared the groundwork for advancing to the next phase of the peace plan.
Under the new phase, a Palestinian technocratic body named the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza will govern Gaza during its transition.
Operating with the backing of the US-led Board of Peace, the committee will oversee governance as part of the broader transition process.
“As Chairman of the Board of Peace, I am backing a newly appointed Palestinian Technocratic Government, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, supported by the Board’s High Representative, to govern Gaza during its transition,” he said.
Supporting this structure, the Board’s High Representative will assist the committee in managing Gaza during the transitional period.
Senior US officials said this arrangement represents a significant shift, as the technocratic body would replace both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority in governing Gaza.
“With the support of Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar, we will secure a COMPREHENSIVE Demilitarization Agreement with Hamas, including the surrender of ALL weapons, and the dismantling of EVERY tunnel,” Trump noted.
“Hamas must IMMEDIATELY honor its commitments, including the return of the final body to Israel, and proceed without delay to full Demilitarization,” Trump added.
According to US administration officials, phase two redirects attention from ceasefire maintenance to rebuilding Gaza’s governance systems and infrastructure.
Officials said the first phase delivered major humanitarian outcomes, including large-scale aid distribution, vaccination campaigns, rubble removal, and the facilitation of hostage returns, while maintaining the ceasefire.
Looking ahead, officials said the new phase aims to consolidate humanitarian gains and lay the foundation for lasting stability and peace in Gaza.
