Dominica To Confer Prime Minister Narendra Modi With Its Highest National Award

The Commonwealth of Dominica has announced to grant its most prestigious accolade, the Dominica Award of Honour, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This honor acknowledges his pivotal role in assisting Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his unwavering commitment to enhancing the ties between India and Dominica.

Sylvanie Burton, the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica will present the award at the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, Guyana, from 19 to 21 November 2024.

The award honors Prime Minister Modi’s significant contributions to Dominica, particularly during the early days of the pandemic.

In February 2021, India provided Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, a gesture that played a crucial role in safeguarding public health not only within Dominica but also across the Caribbean region.

This act of solidarity helped Dominica offer vaccine assistance to its neighboring nations.

Beyond health support, the Dominica Award of Honour also recognizes India’s ongoing contributions in key sectors such as healthcare, education, and information technology, all of which have been vital to the nation’s development.

Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has supported climate resilience-building initiatives and sustainable development, areas that align with Dominica’s long-term goals.

Prime Minister Modi A True Partner To Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed his gratitude for India’s unwavering support.

He stated, “Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, particularly during our time of need amid a global health crisis. It is an honour to present him with Dominica’s highest national accolade as a symbol of our gratitude for his support and as a reflection of the strong ties between our countries. We look forward to building on this partnership and advancing our shared vision of progress and resilience.”

In his acceptance, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of international collaboration to address global challenges such as climate change, economic instability, and geopolitical tensions.

He reiterated India’s commitment to working with Dominica and other Caribbean nations to promote collective growth, resilience, and peace.

The India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown will serve as a critical platform for Prime Minister Modi, President Burton, and Prime Minister Skerrit to discuss shared priorities, deepen diplomatic ties, and explore new avenues for cooperation between India and the Caribbean region.
