A bombing took place late Friday at a military base in central Iraq that housed housing army troops and pro-Iranian paramilitaries.
According to a military official, the explosion occurred at the Calso base, which is home to the erstwhile pro-Iranian paramilitary force Hashed al-Shaabi, which has now been absorbed into the regular army.
The Interior Ministry official stated that one person was killed and eight others injured in the incident, while the military source stated three Iraqi military soldiers were wounded.
In a statement, Hashed al-Shaabi revealed that the attack resulted in material losses and casualties, but did not indicate how many were injured.
Responding to questioning, the sources refused to specify who was responsible for the attack or whether it had been a drone strike.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.
Hashed al-Shaabi, an alliance of primarily Shiite armed groups founded to combat the Islamic State group, is now a part of Iraq’s security forces.
The attack on the pro-Iranian paramilitaries comes as regional tensions rise over the war between Israel and Tehran-backed Palestinian militants Hamas.
On Friday, strikes blamed on Israel attacked a military base near Isfahan in Iran.
