The Indian Embassy in Azerbaijan celebrated Bihar Diwas on Thursday.
The celebration was marked with an event showcasing the state’s civilisational heritage, vibrant culture, tourism potential, handicrafts and distinctive cuisine.

The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives of international organisations, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, business representatives, media professionals, social media influencers, members of the Indian diaspora and Azerbaijani citizens.
India’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Abhay Kumar highlighted Bihar’s significance in India’s civilisational history, noting its association with Buddhism and Jainism, the ancient Magadha Empire, Nalanda and the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Abhay Kumar recalled Bihar’s association with figures including Emperor Ashoka, Aryabhata, Chanakya, Rajendra Prasad and Jayaprakash Narayan. He highlighted the state’s traditions of art, music, festivals, cuisine and craftsmanship and invited visitors to explore Bihar’s historical, spiritual and cultural attractions.
A fashion show featuring members of the Azerbaijani community and Indian diaspora showcased traditional Indian attire representing Bihar’s cultural heritage.
Guests were served authentic Bihari cuisine prepared by international chefs from India, featuring traditional savouries and sweets.
Products including Makhana, Bhagalpuri Silk, Madhubani prints and Dal Chadar were displayed, highlighting Bihar’s agricultural, artisanal and textile traditions.
A cultural programme featuring music and dance performances inspired by Bihar’s musical traditions added to the celebrations.
The embassy said the event was part of its continuing efforts to promote India’s cultural diversity in Azerbaijan. It also aimed to strengthen people-to-people ties and cultural understanding between the two countries.
The celebration drew strong interest from Azerbaijani citizens and the wider diplomatic and international community. It also highlighted growing interest in exploring India’s diverse cultural heritage.
