Biden ‘Chuffed’ To Receive Leather Jacket From Australian PM Albanese

US President Joe Biden expressed delight upon receiving a leather jacket from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during their meeting at Biden’s home in Wilmington. Albanese described Biden as “chuffed” about the Air Force jacket, which was part of a friendly exchange of gifts between the two leaders.

The meeting took place ahead of the Quad Leaders’ Summit set for Saturday in Wilmington, Delaware. Albanese, speaking to reporters afterward, shared details of their discussions, which included a one-on-one chat and a subsequent 90-minute meeting with his delegation, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, and Australian Ambassador to the US, Caroline Kennedy.

“It was my great honor to be invited into President Biden’s home for this meeting,” Albanese stated. He noted that this was the first time a foreign leader had met Biden at his residence, emphasizing the warmth and engagement of their discussions, which he described as a conversation between allies and friends.

As part of their gift exchange, Biden presented Albanese with a book about Archmere Academy, Biden’s former school, where the summit will take place. Albanese reciprocated with the personalized leather jacket, which Biden appreciated.

When asked about Biden’s age, Albanese praised the US President’s vigor and expertise, stating, “He’s fit, he is totally on top of his brief.” Albanese highlighted Biden’s extensive experience, including his years as Vice President and his tenure in the US Senate.

Reflecting on their one-on-one conversation, Albanese remarked on Biden’s optimistic outlook. “Hope’s always better than fear as an emotion,” he said, expressing his preference for an optimistic approach to leadership.

The meeting marks a significant moment as Biden hosts foreign leaders for the first time in his Wilmington home, culminating in an “intimate leaders’ dinner” ahead of the Quad summit.
