Australian PM Anthony Albanese To Visit India In December With Business Delegation

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced plans to visit India in December with a business delegation, saying there is scope to further expand the economic partnership between the two countries. He made the remarks during a discussion with former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at the Asia Society in New York.

Albanese said his visit would include a business event in Mumbai with Australian companies, modelled on the ‘G’day LA’ format, before concluding in Chennai with a cricket event involving teams from Victoria and Western Australia.

The trip is planned around the G20 Summit scheduled to be held in Miami on December 14-15.

Speaking about ties with India, Albanese said the economic relationship remained underused despite growing cooperation between the two countries. He said both he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were keen to expand the partnership.

Albanese highlighted his strong relationship with PM Modi, noting that both leaders had visited each other’s countries twice during his tenure. He recalled attending a large Indian community gathering in Australia with PM Modi.

The leaders last met in Melbourne in July, discussing trade, defence, critical minerals, technology, clean energy and education.

India and Australia expanded sporting ties, with the Big Bash League opener set for Chennai in December during the G’Day Namaste festival.

Albanese highlighted India’s growing importance and Quad cooperation with Australia, Japan and the US.

Bilateral ties have expanded across defence, energy, technology, education and sport.

Albanese’s December visit will combine business and sporting engagements as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral ties.
