Australian PM Anthony Albanese Marks Diwali With Message Of Light & Optimism

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese extended heartfelt Diwali greetings on Monday, highlighting the festival’s universal message of light triumphing over darkness and the power of hope in uncertain times.

In a video message shared on social media platform X, Albanese said, “I wish everyone a very Happy Diwali. As you gather to celebrate the great festival of lights, may this special time uplift you with hope for a bright future. May it be an absolutely wonderful celebration.”

Celebrated by millions across the globe, Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of Dharma over Adharma, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance.

The festival holds deep cultural and spiritual resonance, not only within India but also across the Indian diaspora worldwide—including Australia.

Messages of Goodwill from Australian Leadership

Joining the Prime Minister in extending festive wishes, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong also shared a message of hope and renewal.

Posting on X, she said, “As Diwali lights up homes across India, Australia, and the world, we celebrate the spirit of unity, renewal and hope. May this Festival of Lights bring prosperity and peace to all.”

Australian Member of Parliament John Pessuto echoed similar sentiments, recognising Diwali’s broader significance.

“Diwali is such a wonderful celebration. It recognises the triumph of good over evil, of light over darkness, and of hope over despair. And can’t we all use more of that in today’s world?” he remarked.

Pessuto also emphasised that Diwali has become an integral part of Australia’s multicultural calendar.

“It’s not only a celebration for those of Indian heritage but one that enriches the cultural fabric of the entire nation,” he added.

Celebrations at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi

In India, the Australian High Commission in New Delhi marked the occasion with vibrant celebrations.

Also, the festivities were joined by Australian Minister Anne Aly, who participated with enthusiasm alongside diplomatic staff.

#Diwali with the High Commission family is always a joyous occasion, made even more special this year with Minister Anne Aly joining in the festivities with great enthusiasm. Wishing everyone a #HappyDiwali!” Philip Green OAM, Australia’s High Commissioner to India posted on X.

Furthermore, as Diwali continues to be celebrated globally, the outpouring of goodwill from Australian leaders reflects the strong cultural ties between India and Australia.

Their collective message reinforces the festival’s timeless call for peace, positivity, and shared humanity—values that resonate far beyond any one nation.
