The Twitter new owner, Mr. Elon Musk, has claimed that Apple threatened to ban Twitter from app store without providing any explanation.
He tweeted,” Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why”, from his official Twitter handle.
He also claimed that the iPhone manufacturer had ceased running advertisements on the social networking site. The world’s richest man said Apple was putting pressure on Twitter over requirements for content control.
“Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?,” Musk said in another tweet. He also tagged Apple CEO Tim Cook’s Twitter account and asked,” What’s going on here?”
“The Twitter Files on free speech suppression soon to be published on Twitter itself. The public deserves to know what really happened …” added Musk in another tweet.
Apple has not confirmed the action; it would not be without precedent. But the move would not be out of the ordinary – given that it regularly enforces its policies.
The company has previously shown it’s willing to remove apps from its app store over concerns about their ability to moderate harmful content or if they attempt to circumvent the cut Apple takes from in-app purchases and subscriptions.
Apple earlier deleted applications like Parler and Gab. in 2021, restored it after the app updated its content and moderation practices, the companies said at the time.
The Apple Company routinely enforced its rules on to third-party apps in its app store, a policy that led to the removal of apps such as Gab and Parler, which is popular with U.S. conservatives.
The billionaire CEO of Twitter and Tesla said Apple was pressuring Twitter over content moderation demands. He said Apple should publish all censorship actions it has taken that affect its customers.
He tweeted, “Who else has Apple censored?”
