In a violent ambush in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province, at least 11 policemen were killed and seven others injured when dacoits attacked police vehicles on Thursday, according to police officials.
The incident occurred in the Machka area of Rahim Yar Khan district. Bandits launched rockets at two police vans transporting over 20 officers who were returning from routine duties at a local checkpoint, reports Xinhua news agency. The attack took place when one of the vans experienced a mechanical failure, forcing the officers to stop for repairs. This vulnerability led to the immediate death of 11 officers and injuries to seven others.

Emergency and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. The injured were transported to a nearby hospital, where at least two are reported to be in critical condition.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack, calling for swift and effective action against the perpetrators. “Our police personnel face criminals and terrorists with immense bravery, often at great personal risk. The entire nation honors the courage and dedication of our police force,” he stated.
