Airstrike On Mosque In Sudan Leaves 31 Dead

An airstrike on a mosque in Wad Madani, the capital of Gezira State, has resulted in the deaths of at least 31 people. The local non-governmental group, the Wad Madani resistance committee, reported the incident.

The attack occurred on Sunday evening, targeting the Sheikh El Jeili mosque shortly after prayers. Warplanes dropped explosive barrels on the mosque and surrounding areas in the Al-Imtidad neighborhood.

The committee stated that 15 victims have been identified, while the count of unidentified bodies is ongoing. As of now, there has been no official response from any parties regarding the strike.

Since December 2023, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have controlled Gezira State after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) withdrew from Wad Madani. This incident is part of a broader conflict that has ravaged Sudan since mid-April 2023, leading to over 24,850 reported deaths, according to the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project as of October 14.
