The Moscow-installed occupational authorities stated that the Ukrainian bombardment of the Russian-occupied section of the southern Kherson region killed nine people on Friday.
The strikes came as Kyiv launched a counteroffensive to reclaim territory from Moscow’s forces, with an emphasis on the country’s south.
“Nine dead people were pulled out from under the rubble”, Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-installed head of the Moscow-occupied Kherson region, stated.
Konstantin Basyuk, a local Moscow-backed official, had previously put the death toll at seven, adding that medics were fighting for the lives of another two victims.
He accused Kyiv of attacking civilian infrastructure in the Chaplynskiy district, including the local pensions office and jobs centre.
Chaplynka is located approximately 100 kilometres (62 miles) southeast of Kherson, the regional capital occupied by Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine reclaimed Kherson from Russian soldiers last year, but Moscow still controls the majority of the province.
