A series of earthquakes struck parts of China, Tibet and Nepal within a few hours early Friday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), with the strongest measuring magnitude 4.5 in China.
The NCS reported that the 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck China at 01:44 AM IST at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Earlier, the agency recorded a magnitude 4.2 earthquake in Tibet at 12:50 AM IST, with its epicentre located at a depth of 90 kilometres.
The seismic activity continued with a magnitude 3.4 earthquake in Nepal at 01:18 AM IST.
Hours earlier, at 11:25 PM IST on Thursday, the NCS had also detected a magnitude 4.3 earthquake in Tibet at a depth of 130 kilometres.
The four earthquakes occurred between late Thursday night and the early hours of Friday, affecting different parts of the Himalayan region and western China.
The varying depths, ranging from 10 to 130 kilometres, reflected different seismic characteristics across the affected areas.
Despite the series of tremors, there were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries or significant damage.
Authorities also did not issue any tsunami warnings or emergency advisories following the earthquakes, while officials in China, Tibet and Nepal had not released any emergency updates as of Friday morning.
The Himalayan belt, spanning Nepal, Tibet and adjoining parts of China, remains one of the world’s most seismically active regions.
The area experiences frequent earthquakes due to the ongoing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, which continues to generate intense geological activity beneath the Earth’s surface.
