New Zealand All-rounder leads the World Cup in fielding impact

At the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Mitch Santner has demonstrated his adaptability by surpassing a number of his peers to maintain the lead in the competition to have the greatest influence on the field.

The veteran Kiwi all-rounder has made an impression in a number of other fielding categories, so even though he has only four catches in six World Cup games, his efect in the field is far larger.

The 31-year old is ranked highly in categories for pressure ratings, strong throws, and attemped runouts. In the field, he has been deemed to have saved nine runs overall.

Santner is leading Australia’s David Warner and South Africa’s David Miller by a whisker in the battle for the World Cup’s overall fielding impact after six games for each team.

After three matches for each team in the tournament, Virat Kohli had taken the lead. However, colleague Ravindra Jadeja has jumped ahead of him into fifth place, dropping the Indian batter to sixth place on the current list.

This indicates that two Indian players are among the top 10 in terms of fielding ratings, with Australia being the only other team to have two of its stars (Warner, third, and Glenn Maxwell, eighth) in the top 10.

But when it comes to team fielding, South Africa is in the first place. The Proteas have secured a total of 44 catches, seven more than any other team, and have also saved the most runs with 44. Due to their second-fewest dropped receptions (six), Netherlands is ranked second in the team fielding ratings; England, the defending champions, are ranked third with the fewest dopped catches (four).
