Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, filed a motion on Friday asking for a vote of confidence in the assembly. The House has been adjourned until tomorrow for the purpose of discussing this motion. The National Capital Territory of Delhi’s seventh Legislative Assembly is currently in its fifth budget session.
The assembly motion was made a few days after the Aam Aadami Party (AAP) chief was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for the sixth time in relation to the ongoing investigation into the now-scrapped liquor policy.
Kejriwal, who has denied any wrongdoing, claimed that law enforcement was used by the Bharatiya Janata Party to try and steal AAP MLAs and overthrow his government.
On February 19, Kejriwal has been invited to appear before the central investigative agency. He has already been called upon on February 2, January 18, January 3, and December 21 and November 2 of 2023. The chief minister has always described these notices as “illegal.”

The sixth summons comes after a Delhi court ordered Kejriwal to appear in response to an ED complaint, stating that the AAP chief is “legally bound” to comply on the face of it.
“From the contents of the complaint and the material placed on record, prima facie offence under Section 174 of the IPC is made out and there are sufficient grounds for proceeding against accused Arvind Kejriwal…”
“Accordingly, issue summons to accused Arvind Kejriwal for the offence under Section 174 of the IPC for February 17, 2024,” the judge said.
Notably, key AAP leaders—Satyendar Jain, Manish Sisodia, and Sanjay Singh—have been jailed in money laundering cases.
