UP Loco Pilot Shows Surgery Stitches To Prove Need For Medical Leave

A railway employee in Uttar Pradesh triggered widespread discussion after a distressing incident involving medical leave denial surfaced online.

A loco pilot reportedly removed his trousers in front of a senior official to display stitches from recent piles surgery, attempting to prove the seriousness of his condition.

The episode occurred within the Lucknow Rail Division of Indian Railways.

According to union representatives, the locomotive driver had requested extended medical leave after undergoing surgery.

However, officials allegedly declined the request despite medical documentation.

Frustrated by the refusal, the employee demonstrated his surgical wound directly to a senior officer.

The act was intended to establish that he still required rest and could not resume operational duties.

A video of the confrontation circulated rapidly on employee WhatsApp groups and social media platforms, drawing widespread reactions.

Union leaders from the All India Loco Running Staff Association said the driver had undergone surgery on February 22 after prolonged treatment attempts failed. He initially received leave until February 28 but later sought an extension when his surgical wounds had not healed completely.

Doctors at the Railway Health Unit reportedly examined him and supported the request for additional rest.

Officials asked him to obtain a formal ‘sick memo’ from supervisory authorities.

The driver approached both the crew controller and the chief crew controller for the required approval.

Union representatives claim the employee submitted several medical records, prescriptions, and laboratory reports to justify his request. He also showed the bandages and dressings used during recovery. Despite this evidence, the officer allegedly refused to grant the leave extension.

Faced with the continued rejection, the loco pilot reportedly removed his clothing to reveal the surgical wound as proof of his medical condition.

Colleagues recorded the moment, and the footage soon circulated widely among railway staff.

Union officials condemned the episode and described the situation as humiliating. They argued that railway workers operate under demanding conditions and deserve fair medical treatment.

The association has called for disciplinary action against the concerned official.

Following intervention by union representatives, senior railway authorities later granted the loco pilot the rest leave he requested.
