IMD Predicts Rain In Delhi; Temperature To Stay Around 35-37°C

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted overcast skies along with light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across several parts of Delhi on Tuesday.

The anticipated rainfall will provide temporary relief from the oppressive heat and humidity that have gripped the city over the past few days.

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for the national Capital and has urged residents to stay informed about changing weather conditions.

The department has forecast rainfall across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh from July 7 to July 11, with comparatively heavier showers expected on July 7 and July 9.

The IMD has advised commuters to check the latest weather updates before planning their journeys.

Temperature Outlook

According to the IMD, Delhi’s daytime temperature will range between 35°C and 37°C, while the night-time temperature will remain between 26°C and 28°C.

The weather office has indicated that maximum temperatures are unlikely to witness any major fluctuation over the next seven days, although minimum temperatures may decline slightly before increasing again later in the week.

Even with rain in the forecast, excessive humidity is expected to remain a challenge for residents.

The heat index, which combines air temperature and humidity to indicate how hot it actually feels, climbed to 49.6°C in certain parts of the city, making outdoor conditions particularly uncomfortable.

Despite forecasts of heavy rain on Monday, most parts of Delhi witnessed only drizzle, with the expected downpour failing to materialise.

The city also recorded one of its warmest July days in the past two years, as the maximum temperature reached 38.6°C.

According to the latest IMD figures, India received 53.3 mm of rainfall between July 1 and July 6 against the normal 48 mm, registering an 11 per cent surplus.

In contrast, Delhi recorded just 6.6 mm of rainfall compared with the seasonal average of 21 mm, leaving the Capital with a 68 per cent rainfall deficit, one of the largest shortfalls reported in the country.
