Fog Covers Delhi-NCR After Rain; IMD Predicts Fresh Showers On March 23

Large parts of Delhi and the surrounding Delhi-NCR region experienced dense fog on Saturday morning after rainfall the previous evening, affecting visibility in several areas.

Places such as Delhi Cantonment, North Ridge, Ghaziabad, and Noida reported similar weather, with a thin fog layer visible across the skyline during the early hours.

The India Meteorological Department stated that the unstable weather pattern is expected to persist. It also forecast another round of rainfall on March 23, indicating continued fluctuations in conditions.

The weather department attributed the fog to moisture lingering in the air after recent showers. It noted that while skies may begin to clear, foggy conditions could continue in the near term.

Even with overcast skies and damp conditions, temperatures are likely to rise steadily from Saturday. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius over the next few days, marking a gradual transition to warmer weather.

Air Quality Shows Improvement

Air quality across the region has improved following the rainfall. The IMD expects the Air Quality Index to stay within the ‘moderate’ category in the coming days.

According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board, the overall AQI stood at 123 on Friday, reflecting cleaner air compared to previous days.

Various monitoring stations reported AQI levels in the moderate range. Anand Vihar and RK Puram recorded 176, while Dwarka and Chandni Chowk registered 118. Bawana showed a reading of 123, and the area near Jawaharlal Nehru University recorded a lower level of 106.

The AQI scale, which ranges from 0 to 500, categorises air quality into six levels, from ‘good’ to ‘severe’, based on health impact. A ‘moderate’ level suggests that air quality is acceptable for most individuals, though some sensitive groups may feel slight discomfort.

The improvement in air quality followed a shift in the weather on Friday, when residents experienced cloudy skies, strong winds, and a drop in temperature after rainfall in several parts of the city.

With additional rainfall expected, authorities have advised residents to stay informed about weather updates, particularly during early mornings and evenings when fog and low visibility could disrupt travel.
