State-owned oil marketing companies increased the prices of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders on Saturday, citing rising global energy costs linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Household cooking gas became costlier by Rs 60, while commercial cylinders, used by hotels, restaurants, and other businesses, rose by Rs 114.5.
According to the Indian Oil Corporation, the price of a non-subsidised 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in New Delhi has been raised to Rs 913 from Rs 853, marking the second hike in under a year.
Commercial LPG cylinders also faced a steep increase, reflecting the global surge in energy prices.
Industry officials said rising LPG prices stem from escalating Middle East tensions, which have unsettled energy markets and raised supply concerns.
Crude oil prices have climbed amid the geopolitical situation.
Despite rising prices, PSU oil companies reassured the public that fuel stocks remain sufficient. Both Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) dismissed rumours of petrol and diesel shortages as ‘completely unfounded’ and ‘baseless’.
BPCL emphasised uninterrupted fuel availability. Similarly, IOCL clarified that reports suggesting petrol and diesel shortages are incorrect.
The company confirmed that fuel stocks and distribution networks are functioning normally and urged citizens to rely only on official sources for information.
The LPG price rise also affected markets, with BPCL shares down nearly 2% to Rs 352.95 and IOCL falling about 2% to Rs 168.10 on the National Stock Exchange of India.
The increase highlights how global tensions directly impact domestic energy costs, even as PSU companies maintain supply stability.
