Delhi Weather: Rain Brings Winter-Like Chill To Delhi-NCR, More Showers Likely

Rain brought a winter-like chill to Delhi-NCR early Tuesday, with the national capital waking to cooler conditions and cloudy skies.

The region may receive isolated rainfall on Tuesday, extending Monday’s light showers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects mainly dry weather from September 30, with mostly clear skies through the first week of October.

The IMD forecast isolated rain, thunderstorms and lightning across Delhi, Chandigarh and Haryana on Tuesday.

Punjab may experience similar conditions. Several parts of northwest India are expected to remain mainly dry from Wednesday.

The southwest monsoon is nearing its final withdrawal, but rainfall continues across several regions.

Heavy rain is likely over Himachal Pradesh, parts of Northeast India, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka.

Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh may witness rain and thunderstorms.

Safdarjung recorded 4.3 mm of rain on Sunday morning after receiving 0.6 mm until 8:30 PM Saturday.

The September 27 shower marked Delhi’s first rain this late in September since September 29, 2019.

The monsoon withdrew from Delhi on September 23, four days after the late showers. The normal withdrawal date is September 25. This year marked the earliest withdrawal since 2002, when it exited on September 20.

The 2026 monsoon arrived on July 2 and lasted 83 days. Safdarjung recorded 728.6 mm of rainfall from June 1 to September 23, 16 per cent above the normal 629.7 mm.

The IMD classified seasonal rainfall as normal.

Delhi-NCR’s air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category.
