Delhi Weather: IMD Forecasts Rain Across Delhi-NCR Till July 9

The southwest monsoon has fully extended over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and other parts of North India.

While the Capital has not yet experienced widespread downpours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects cloudy conditions and spells of rain to continue across Delhi-NCR until July 9.

The change in weather will likely ease the heat and bring cooler daytime temperatures.

The IMD has placed Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh under rain alerts from July 6 to July 8.

Similar conditions are expected across Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. Areas such as Noida and Ghaziabad are likely to receive rainfall on July 8 and 9, whereas eastern districts may witness showers between July 7 and July 9.

Meteorologists have predicted heavy rainfall across eastern Rajasthan through July 9. Western Rajasthan may also experience intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the same period.

In Uttar Pradesh, several districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Barabanki, Etawah and Bahraich, have already recorded continuous rainfall. Rain alerts also remain in force for Gorakhpur, Basti, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Jaunpur and several western districts until July 9.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has advanced into additional parts of Gujarat, the remaining regions of Madhya Pradesh and more areas of Rajasthan and Haryana.

A low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal has strengthened monsoon activity and will likely keep weather conditions favourable for further advancement over the next four to five days.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall across Gujarat, Konkan, central Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh until July 6.

Although monsoon activity has intensified in July, June 2026 ranked among the driest Junes recorded in India since 1901.

The country received rainfall nearly 39 per cent below the long-term average during the month.

Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory recorded only 41.8 mm of rainfall during June. This was significantly below the city’s normal June average of 74.1 mm.
